The Preparatory Courses, also known as the University Foundation Year, is kind of pre-study education. It mainly focuses on learning language and some basic courses to suit the life of studying in China, usually lasting for six months or a year. After the students complete the preparatory program in China, they can make a decision either to enter the original choice of institutions or to choose a better university based on the results of pre-study program.
At present, dozens of Chinese universities offer preparatory courses for international students coming to China. The Chinese proficiency level of foreign students applying for a degree course at a Chinese university need to reach HSK Level 4 or above. Therefore, if you wish to study in China on the zero-based Chinese language, it is recommended that you apply for a pre-study course to improve your Chinese language to pass the HSK exam.
