The Confucius Institute is a non-profit educational organization established through Sino-foreign cooperation. It commits to meeting the needs of people from all over the world to learn Chinese language, enhancing the understanding of Chinese culture among people from all over the world, strengthening educational and cultural exchanges and developing friendly relations between China and foreign countries, and promoting the development of the multi-culture in a harmonious world.
As of September 30, 2019, 535 Confucius Institutes and 1,134 Confucius classrooms have been established in 158 countries and regions around the world. Among them, there are 127 Confucius Institutes and 113 Confucius classrooms in Asia’s 36 countries and regions. A total of 61 Confucius Institutes and 44 Confucius classrooms in Africa’s 46 countries. A total of 184 Confucius Institutes and 323 Confucius classrooms in Europe’s 43 countries. There are 143 Confucius Institutes and 558 Confucius classrooms in 26 countries in the Americas. There are 20 Confucius Institutes and 96 Confucius classrooms in Oceania’s seven countries.
Confucius Institutes carry out Chinese language teaching, promote exchanges and cooperation in education and culture between China and foreign countries. The services provided include: teaching Chinese, training Chinese teachers, providing Chinese language resources, conducting Chinese proficiency examinations and teachers’ certification, providing information on Chinese education and culture, and conducting cultural exchanges between Chinese and foreign languages.
Confucius Institutes make full use of their advantages to conduct a variety of teaching and cultural activities, and gradually form a unique mode of running schools, become an important place for foreigners to learn Chinese language and culture and understand contemporary society of China. Confucius Institutes are warmly welcomed by the local communities around of the world.
